I took 41 high school students to Newfield's Indianapolis Museum of Art on Thursday this week. My favorite thing is making them pick a piece of artwork and imitate it, take a picture of both and turn it in to me. It is always gold! In other news, the school that I teach at had active shooter training this past Wednesday. This has nothing to do with art, it was just moderately traumatizing so I thought I'd mention it. We ran different exercises like fight, barricade and evacuate. I "died" in the evacuation. I also found that my character is lacking when under pressure. How, you might ask? Well, after I realized that I had been "shot" from above (local pd were firing blanks at us) I freaked out and bolted through the door in front of me. Not so bad, but there was an older lady in my path and I kind of launched her through it... Back to painting!

I have been working on my most recent installation the past few weeks. I want to try to get it on display at the Indianapolis International Airport is 2019 or 2020. My proposal is almost finished and it is developing quite nicely. One thing I learned while writing the artist's statement: it can take 450 -1000 years for a plastic cup to break down. Damn.
And as usual, I continue working on Nike. I am working on the radial design around the sculpture now, and I am going to have a lot of touching up to do around it. Well, I am embarking on a new adventure with representation from Design Art Concepts. It could get my work onto Artsy, which is exciting, and might connect me to new galleries to display my work.
Any who, I will obviously blog about the ups and downs of being represented by them so stay tuned for my art life drama. Back to painting Nike. I am really enjoying how her colors are popping at the bottom. The floating squares are part of a radial design that I am waiting to paint until I've got the base coat done. I enjoy peeking at who is looking at my website occasionally. I can't tell very much (I am a novice) but I can find out what city or country someone is from using google analytics. Well usually there isn't a crazy quantity of countries but when I logged in yesterday I had a sweet surprise. I am honored to have visitors from so many places, even if some of them are bots... In other news, I was approached by a company that represents artists and gets their work onto Artsy. I am really tempted, but in order to avoid ANOTHER scam I am waiting to hear back from some of the artists that are listed on their site... Fingers crossed it is a real thing. Having my art in Artsy would make me feel like I was in a gallery along side Tara Donavon, Joan Miro, and about 100,000 other amazing artist's work.
Also, Nike is progressing. |
