Nike, 41 x 52 inches, Acrylic on Canvas, July 2018-March 2019 $3,850
This painting is based on my favorite statue, the Nike of Samothrace, which I was very lucky to see in person this last June at the Louvre in Paris. The Nike of Samothrace is a marble Hellenistic sculpture of Nike (the Greek goddess of victory), that was created about the 2nd century BCE. Since 1884, it has been prominently displayed at the Louvre and is one of the most celebrated sculptures in the world.
This painting consists of five layers, my photo of the statue that was edited in Adobe Lightroom, colorful triangle patterns reminiscent of a quilt, a more dynamic triangle pattern, a geometric radial design, and a photo of the French countryside.
Below is a slideshow of the paintings creation, updated each week until completion.
