Speedway 1909, 24 x 48 inches, acrylic on canvas, February 13-April 9 2018, NFS
This image is for the Indianapolis Arts Council and Indianapolis Motor Speedways "Welcome Race Fan" project. 5 Artists are creating imagery to promote the race and our city through these works. Mine has four layers. The first is an image of the first car race at the track in 1909, probably taken by the track photographer Charles Bretzman. See this blog post for an article about him. The second layer is of the state flower, the Peony. The third layer is a series of colorful triangles, and the final layer is the phrase "Welcome Race Fans" across the bottom of the painting.
Above is the most recent image of Speedway 1909. Below is a slideshow of it's creation.
