I got another mention a paper, this time the Indianapolis Star! I will link it here for your reading pleasure.
I am currently half way through the details on Nova Hydrographica, I've got 4 proposals to fill out, and a trip with student to Europe in 20 days!
Back to work!
You can read the article here.
The original painting is now in the Pagoda at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
There are also some more prints of the painting around town at the Athenaeum in Indy and on Ossis in Broad Ripple.
Also, I am continuing to add detail to Nova Hydrographica. You can see the progress here.
I have this strange ability to have bad luck and good fortune all at once. Last Friday I participated in a First Friday pop up art market at the Indianapolis City Market. I sold a hole lot of nothing, had 1 beer, and got some grading done. But, I did meet some amazing artists that shared some wisdom with me. Dianna Porter (You can see her paintings here.) , an amazing painter who runs her own gallery in Martinsville and one of the other five people to create a painting for #WelcomeRaceFans asked if I had done a press release for it yet, and I was like, a what a what?
Saturday I contacted the Daily Reporter, per Dianna's recommendation, and by Wednesday I had an interview with Chris Schaefer. She mentioned that the photographer wanted to get my picture by the actual artwork in Indianapolis. Awesome!
The next day when the photographer, Tom Russo, came to my classroom he asked, "So where is the poster? We can get a few shots of you with that." I was like, "No, no, no. We are supposed to go to Indy." (It helped that I had given the poster to Chris). He thought about it for 0.1 seconds and was like, "Lets do this".
For the next hour this master of photography worked his magic. Seriously impressive. Also, I teach photography so I know a 'lil about it and this guy has SKILLS.
Below are some of the pics he gave to me. Thank you Tom Russo! You can see more of his work here and here.
The story will run May 17th here.
