I have no new exciting news in my life of art, so I thought I would share some of my favorite art things. My two favorite art podcasts: The Art History Babes. The best episode, in my opinion, is F*** Gauguin. Also, A Piece of Work is a really well done podcast.
The Art Assignment on youtube is pretty awesome.
And the best App ever is DailyArt. They also have a website, but the app is a great dose of daily art in the form of a high resolution image and a wee tidbit about it.
Back to Nike for me!
Nike is progressing quickly. I am painting the radial design that will surround her last. Usually I paint all of the layers at once, but this time I decided to do them separately to get the color and placement perfect.
I had my second experience with someone attempting to scam me. The first was about two years ago, when a "woman from Greece" wanted to purchase a painting. She attempted to pay by emailing me credit card information, which happened to be a card from the University of Arizona. I'm not sure what the end game was here, other than me losing a painting and not getting paid for it. Free painting scam?
The most recent was a really old school ploy. This "Victor Walters" wanted to buy a painting for his wife. He mailed me a check. With a quick google search I was able to discover that it was from a nonprofit tennis club in Detroit... The sum was too large... So in this case I'm assuming that they were going to try to get me to mail back the extra and then I would find out that the check was no good? When I emailed him "Your scams are as bad as your English" he promptly replied with "What are you talking about?". When I didn't respond he simply said F*CK Y*U. Haha at least he lost the postage that it cost to send the fake check.
So the lessons that were reinforced from these experiences are the following:
1. Only accept payment from the personal account of the purchaser. Not the same name? No sale.
2. Putting yourself on the internet as an artist will make you a target for scams.
I just put my artwork on Artfinder and Saatchi Art so this recent scam experience has me wondering if that is how they found me, and if it is worth having the work there.
Oh well, C'est la vie! Back to painting Nike.
