I am very lucky and have a brother that lives in Belgium, and has the means to fly me, my husband, my brother and son to visit. Belgium did not disappoint! I travel internationally with students and was disappointed that Belgium isn’t on more of the iteneraries.
I teach AP Art History and was very excited to see the Ghent altarpiece, which is 1 of the 250 artworks that students study. Why is it so special? Well, for one it is huge, and well done, and it is very old. It is also a first. The first large scale altarpiece done in oil on panel. It was so famous that Hitler coveted it for his art collection.
Everyday between the hours of 12-1 the altarpiece is opened. You aren’t supposed to film it, but I’m a rebel.
I was also very lucky and got to see Manakin Pis, the best statue ever.
The Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam did not disappoint. *Note Abs baby Jesus
What day is it? Abs day.
