Picture this. You enter an art show that is supposed to be about three historical figures. You, being a feminist, select the one woman in the bunch. Next you look for an image of her to base a portrait on. Most of them look like an angry Mrs. Santa Claus. Then, viola! An image that will do, it is much less stern. So you paint your portrait and the night before the painting will be displayed you happen across the original file on your computer...
And it is named MarySullivan. Why? Why would this file be named that? The painting is of May Wright Sewall... One quick google search later and the reason that this was the only non angry looking Mrs.Santa is revealed. IT ISN'T MAY WRIGHT SEWALL. So, on the bright side, the painting has an interesting story behind it, AND I accidentally did a portrait of a second bad ass chick who helped found the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Win-win. Show next Friday- Art from the Heartland at the Indianapolis Art Center Come out next Friday evening for a juried show in Broadripple. There will be a DJ, catering and an awards ceremony. More chance for rejection! These lovely ladies will be there.
